Artist Statement: 
”Abide with me! Fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens. Lord, with me abide!
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me!”  - Abide With Me, Hymn #166
 
Singing this song in sacrament meeting the day I carved this put things in a whole new perspective for me, I imagined this song through the Savior’s perspective. In this image, Christ has just finished the longest struggle of his life, and felt the withdrawing of the Father’s spirit. Feeling exhausted and even a little defeated, his friends emotionally checked out, and left covered in literal blood, sweat, and tears; he begs with the Father to be near him during his monumental struggle, “abide with me!”. As he gains his strength and staggers and struggles to stand, he leans against an old gnarled olive tree, and the glow of the moon shines on him, reminding and comforting him of his Heavenly Parent’s everlasting love and presence as he goes onto endure the final days of his life’s work.
