Artist Statement:
I sometimes feel pressure to understand more than I understand, to know things I don't know, or to accomplish more than I can accomplish. This painting is a reminder to slow down and reconnect with my inner world. The woman in the painting places her hands on her heart in a gesture of returning to herself as she looks off into the distance. This pull between looking outward and turning inward intrigues me. I want this painting to feel like nature—the very world itself—is giving her a hug. She can trust in the hope that is in her heart.
