Artist Statement:
Cameos were popular in the Victorian ear just when cabinets of curiosities were. I’ve always loved the unique combination of portraiture and jewelry that cameos have. The portrait on an original cameo is carved from shell. This version I’ve created is a watercolor portrait to imitate the white shell carving. It has colored pencil highlights and is layered on a brooch created with paper – again featuring colored pencil details.
