Artist Statement:
Our Lord and Redeemer extends his open arms to us. He shows us the sacrifice he made with his wounded and broken body, now perfected. The poppy flower has a rich history in many different cultures. To the Egyptians it symbolized rebirth and resurrection. John McCrae famously wrote the poem, “In Flanders Field” the poppies grew in-between the graves of the dead as a testament to the blood they shed and how peacefully they now lay. The poppy flower has extremely delicate petals, but is surprisingly durable and grows well in poor conditions. There’s many ties that one can make from the poppy flower to Christ.
