Artist Statement:
“Until the Day Dawn” is a contemplation on the past. When I became a parent, I immediately felt connected to the long line of mothers who came before me. Despite the decades or even centuries that separated us, I wondered what I inherited from their family culture, habits, and ideas. What passes on? What will I impart to future generations, and what will be lost to the long years ahead? Using autumn leaves, which also fall and fade, this artwork contemplates those who have passed. Yet the vibrant reds and oranges convey a fire that still burns, a torch of inheritance that was carried down by those before us and will continue to those yet to come.
