The Tree of Life

Lehi lifts his gaze to the end
of the path, seeing more
than he could imagine:
exiled Asherah
illuminates his way, expands
into every corner of the universe, into
fractals upon fractals of branches—
love multiplying
outside of time.
!ere, on the vast "eld
numberless paths
gather creation, converge at Her trunk
—cheetah and aspen
taste the "ery white fruit.
Her song is the sacred script
of #owers, equations of stars and tissue.
Here, he writes, there is
no salvation without
the salmon and the yew.
His feet trans"gure at Her roots.
Temporary seraph, he feels earth
about to #ame. And then a voice, rolling:
Brush his skin with my delightful oil,
and clothe him in my glory, greater
than the greatest light.
Above his head women and men
ascend the morning dew.
