Artist: Anna M. Wright

Title: In Want of the Prophetess

Media: Original acrylic and pastel on canvas

Size: 20 x16 in.

Artist Statement:

Symbolism: The woman has found the word ‘prophetess’ in her scriptures and gazes out the window, lost in thought. The opening she looks through is nearly opaque, as though she “[sees] through a glass, darkly” while considering the unknown. She sits in solitude, like Anna the Prophetess in her temple. The red woven throughout the painting represents leadership, royalty, transformation, and spiritual awakening. Red also represents the first phase of the sacred directions—East—in which a young soul’s journey begins. Close inspection will show marks of pencil and other foundations left uncorrected. The white sections of the piece are also left intentionally bare; both as representation of an unanswered future and a practical vessel for light and divinity to break through the canvas.
