Artist Statement:
In the myth of Daphne and Apollo, Apollo chases Daphne and attempts to overpower her in what must have been a terrifying scenario for the water nymph. Saved by the river god Peneus, the god transforms Daphne into a laurel tree, a form that protects her from Apollo’s advances. Symbolized by the sprouting green leaves, this artwork reaffirms that even amidst pain and fear, life continues to grow.
