Artist Statement: 
In many depictions of the First Vision, we see Joseph communing with God and Christ after they’ve appeared and the evil force has fled. I wanted to represent the in-between — the precise moment when the light appeared and darkness was departing, but before Joseph noticed his deliverance. I thought about how it relates to our own lives — the moments of darkness we experience and how we can hold onto hope that light is around the corner, that God is coming for us in ways we may not even recognize. The moments as a parent when we’re struggling to know how to help our child. The dark mist of mental health struggles. The loss of a loved one. Financial worries. Faith challenges. Health hardships. I know that somehow, some way, it is possible that God knows every one of us perfectly. I believe They are running to our aid in our darkest moments. I have felt Their rescuing hands. I have felt the warmth of Their light. They are with us.
