About the event

Doctrine & Covenants 1:30 famously alludes to “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth with which I, the Lord, am well pleased.” Given the offense and difficulties this language presents to many, what does this passage actually mean?

  •  What might “ONLY” mean?

  • What about “TRUE”?

  • What about “LIVING”?

  • If there were to be a softer interpretation of the church’s uniqueness, how would this affect our mandate toward missionary work and vicarious ordinances for the deceased?
