About the event
What is the spirit world like? Can you rob a bank there? Can you fall in love?
HEMINGWAY IN PARADISE AND OTHER MORMON POEMS, the debut poetry collection of Scott Hales, explores these questions—and many others—as it takes readers on a rollicking trek across distinct latter-day landscapes, speculative worlds where Ernest Hemingway watches his language, Christopher Columbus sails the icy oceans of hell, and an early Mormon apostle chases down a stone giant.
Scott Hales is a writer, historian, and cartoonist from Cincinnati, Ohio. He has a BA in English from Brigham Young University and an MA and PhD in English from the University of Cincinnati. He has been a historian and writer for the Church History Department since 2015 and currently serves as a general editor and writer for Saints, the new four-volume history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His work has appeared in various publications, including Irreantum, Religion and the Arts, The Edgar Allan Poe Review, Served: A Missionary Comics Anthology, and the Mormon Lit Blitz Anthology, Volume 1: The First Five Years, 2012-2016. His popular webcomic THE GARDEN OF ENID: ADVENTURES OF A WEIRD MORMON GIRL was published in 2016-2017 by Greg Kofford Books. HEMINGWAY IN PARADISE AND OTHER MORMON POEMS is his first poetry collection.
Thursday's event is free and open to the public
