Selected works will be featured in an online exhibition accessible to RootsTech’s global audience, and a curated selection of pieces will be exhibited in person at RootsTech 2027 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah (March 4–6, 2027). RootsTech is the annual conference sponsored by FamilySearch International exploring the role of technology in family history and genealogy research. It is the world’s premier family history event, drawing hundreds of thousands of participants from across the globe. Theme: Family, Ancestry & Culture Submitted works must relate meaningfully to one or more of the following: The artist’s personal family history or genealogical story Ideas of family, home, heritage, or belonging Cultural identity, tradition, or intergenerational connection Diaspora, migration, emigration, and immigration The stories, faces, and places that shape who we are We welcome a broad range of approaches—figurative, abstract, narrative, portrait, landscape—so long as the work is grounded in a genuine connection to these themes. Artists will be asked to provide a brief artist statement explaining the relationship between their work and the theme. Content Standards Artwork must be appropriate for a family-oriented audience and consistent with the exhibition theme. All submissions are subject to review by the Gallery and FamilySearch International, each of which reserves the right to reject or remove content that does not comply with the exhibition requirements or applicable event policies. Additional content standards and participation requirements are set forth in the artist agreement (the “Artist Agreement”), which artists must review and accept as part of the submission process. - The Greatest Act of Love | The Compass Gallery
Art depicting the atonement and death of Christ. The Greatest Act of Love April 3rd - 25th Group Exhibition Come see the Easter season represented through different perspectives from Christ's life through his death, Resurrection, and Ascension. Come see different artists' depictions of Christ's life and the Easter story, from His birth and ministry to the triumphant events that define the Christian faith. The works span many sacred moments, inviting visitors to journey through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and the remarkable days that followed — including both The Ascension and the Day of Pentecost within the Easter season and the founding of the Christian church. Among the themes explored, the exhibition touches on the awe-inspiring moment when the risen Christ ascended into heaven before His disciples' very eyes, and the angels' reminder that He would one day return in the same way. It also captures the dramatic arrival of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, when tongues of fire, rushing wind, and the miracle of many languages left thousands of witnesses utterly transformed. These moments — along with the many other scenes from Christ's life depicted throughout the show — come together to tell one unified story of hope, power, and redemption. Whether familiar or newly discovered, the works in this exhibition invite visitors to pause, reflect, and encounter the living story of Easter in a fresh and meaningful way. - Esther H. Candari | The Compass Gallery
Esther Hi'ilani Candari Hawai 'i born and raised, Asian American, Utah based artist, researcher, and educator Esther was born to a mixed Asian American family and raised on the beautiful eastern shore of Oahu, Hawai'i. As an artist, her work reflects this rich multicultural upbringing and often draws upon Polynesian symbols and cultural ideologies. Her work is primarily figurative and explores concepts such as; multiracial identity; gender and the female gaze in context of religion; and the nuance of human psychology that can be expressed through portraiture. Many of her portraits break the fourth wall with their direct gaze and challenge the viewer to engage with the subject on an intimate level, rather than merely observe. The foundations of her painting techniques are traditional in nature, but her meticulously crafted multimedia applications infuse the final works with a unique, innovative, and captivating edge.
