The Tourmaline Rainbow Sterling Silver Dangle Earrings feature sterling silver and tourmaline, delivering a versatile and stylish look.
Across cultures and history, silver has carried spiritual and symbolic weight as well as financial value. Sumerian and Egyptian artisans were working it into religious objects by the third millennium BCE, and Egyptians at times prized it above gold. Across many mythologies Greek Selene, Vedic Chandra, Celtic Arianrhod its cool white sheen tied it to the moon and to cycles of renewal.
Tourmaline's name comes from the Sinhalese word "turamali," meaning mixed gems a term Dutch merchants borrowed in the early 1700s for the multicolored stones they found in the gem gravels of Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka). For centuries, gem traders and even royal jewelers mistook it for other stones: green tourmaline was sold as emerald, and the pink and red stones long displayed in the Russian Crown Jewels were widely believed to be rubies. Mineralogists only recognized tourmaline as its own distinct species in the 1800s.
