The name Lucy means giver of light. St. Lucy is known for being the patron saint of light, eyes, and sight. She was born in Sicily around 283 AD, and was persecuted for her conversion to Christianity. After refusing to marry a pagan, she gave her dowry to the poor. Because of this, she was tortured and killed. Legend says her eyes were gouged out during torture, but then miraculously restored before her burial.
