Queens and Priestesses:
Crowning Creation

New Work by Lisa DeLong

Crowning Creation

We are surrounded by signs and symbols that reveal powerful feminine principles
inextricably interwoven throughout Creation: the pattern traced by the planet Venus, the
starry body of the night sky (known to the ancient Egyptians as the goddess Nut), and the
golden proportions in the structure of DNA that permeate every cell in the body our
matriarchs gifted us with.

Many of the pieces in this collection work with a 10-fold pattern known in Persia as Um al
Girih (Mother of Knots); its structures generate a rich and infinite family of beautiful
designs which share their golden proportional principles with life itself. These patterns form
a woven matrix of golden protection and blessing that shines forth, even in the darkness.
Other paintings work with 12, a number associated with cosmological order and the rights
and responsibilities of priesthood.

This body of work is a meditation on the sacred feminine work that bridges worlds. It is
dedicated to the mothers, queens, and priestesses who bless and teach us as we navigate
the joys, perils, and sorrows of embodiment.
