  • Child-ish | The Compass Gallery

Child-ish is a new work by Katie Cash Davis exploring the openhearted, trusting qualities children bring to the world — and an invitation to reclaim that spirit in ourselves. Rooted in faith, motherhood, and intuitive mark-making, the piece celebrates becoming more child-like in the ways that bring joy, connection, and growth. Child-ish Katie Cash Davis May 1st - 30th Child-ish is a new work by Katie Cash Davis exploring the openhearted, trusting qualities children bring to the world — and an invitation to reclaim that spirit in ourselves. Rooted in faith, motherhood, and intuitive mark-making, this collection celebrates becoming more child-like in the ways that bring joy, connection, and growth. Child-ish Child-ish is a reflection about the soul-centering goodness that children bring to the world, and a nudge to all grownups to move closer to that goodness in us. As a mom and teacher I get to see the way that children engage with the world every day. It’s not perfect, it’s not always logical or sensible, but it is usually honest and openhearted and active. I love the tendency of children to trust, love, try again (and again), experiment, hope, demand, question, forgive and not necessarily notice what is expected or “correct”. As an artist, I try to reflect this kind of childlikeness in my process. I work with intuitive mark-making, playful composition, and layered textures that echo the experience of childhood—cutting, pasting, coloring, experimenting. I try to let go of overthinking and allow space for things to feel less perfect and more alive and connecting. Since I was a child, I have loved the stories of Jesus focusing on little children. He taught that we are meant to become like little children and the scriptures say that children are “alive in Christ”. (Matthew 18:3, Moroni 8:12). I want to be more child-ish in the ways that bring joy and connection with others and with God. I want to see others as God’s children and see myself that way too. I want to trust enough to let myself learn and grow without fear of failure. I want to live in a world that is more focused on children and on the things children focus on. -Katie Cash Davis Quick View Creation - Davis Out of stock Quick View Knowing Exactly What You Don't Want - Davis Price $350.00 Quick View Letting Things Go - Davis Out of stock Quick View My Own Music - Davis Price $680.00 Quick View Stillness - Davis Out of stock Quick View Pedaling - Davis Price $570.00 Quick View Been Waiting for You - Davis Price $760.00 Quick View Your Space to Grow - Davis Price $560.00 Quick View Seeing You - Davis Out of stock Quick View Stay with Me - Davis Out of stock Quick View My Music is Loud - Davis Price $770.00 Quick View The Hill By Our House - Davis Price $580.00 Quick View Learning to Balance in the Wind - Davis Price $350.00 Quick View I Choose You - Davis Out of stock Quick View A Hug for the Elephant in the Room - Davis Out of stock Related Products Quick View Rediscovering Eve - Rebekah Call Price $21.99 Quick View Cakoban's Medallion - Candari Price $75.00 Quick View Birds of a Feather - Habben Price $250.00 Quick View In the Beginning - Habben Price $250.00 Quick View One Too Many Chefs - Habben Price $250.00 Quick View Highwater - Habben Price $250.00 Quick View The Captain - Habben Price $250.00 Quick View Protector II- Candari Price $175.00 Quick View The Moon Print - Zupanic Price $500.00 Quick View The Sun Print - Zupanic Price $500.00 Quick View The Fallen - Zupanic Price $200.00 Quick View Dynasty - Zupanic Price $400.00 Quick View Among Friends - Uhi Price $115.00 Quick View The Sun Elf - Uhi Price $165.00 Quick View Sister 2 - Javicci Price $595.00 Quick View Letting Go- Candari Out of stock

  • AlterNativity | The Compass Gallery

Reimagining and reconnecting with the symbols of the Christmas season through locally made art and decor. AlterNativity Whether you trace its roots to pre-Christian winter solstice and Yuletide celebrations or to the tapestry of global Christian belief and tradition, the Christmas season is overflowing with deeply meaningful and varied symbols and images. But in modern American practice, Christmas is often an overwhelming display of aggressive commercialism, rampant consumerism, and a limited euro-centric view of Christianity. This collection of work invites you to slow down, step back from the tinsel, and consider or reconsider the symbols of the season. Unlike regular exhibits, all pieces from this show can be taken home or shipped immediately upon purchase. Small products like ornaments and Christmas cards are only available for purchase in person at our Center St. location.
