Artist Statement:
St Josephine was a Sudanese survivor of enslavement who became a Cannossian nun. She is seen as a champion of liberty and justice for the trafficked and enslaved. She was canonized in 2000, becoming the first female black Catholic saint in the modern era. In this piece she invites us to consider the divine mandate of freedom, justice, and liberty for all.
