Artist Statement:
I love the idea of young Mary. I’ve wondered about her, and if one anointed to such future pain
and consequence would have moments of prophetic heaviness even as a young child.
The Giotto scene that Mary is draped over gives the otherness- and dream-like quality to
something not yet understood or experienced by Mary. I also happen to adore the interesting
characters that spring up in Giotto’s work.
