Artist Statement:
My earliest conceptions of spirituality were shaped through a patriarchal lens, seeing myself first as “a father’s daughter.” This work reflects the peace and belonging I’ve found through exploring what it means to be “a mother’s daughter,” by reconnecting with my maternal ancestry. The nesting-doll motif reflects the unique physical continuity of the maternal line. My daughter once existed within my body while I was still within my mother. We are connected spiritually through the emotional and physical sacrifices of motherhood, which cultivate and protect the divine spark in each of us, carrying forward light and dreams across generations.
