When my daughter came out to me and I asked what I would do to help her and she asked if I could give a talk in church about being kind to LGBTQ people. The fact that at age 13 she questioned her belonging at church broke my heart. "Of course," I said and poured my heart into that talk. I love what Dave Zimmerman said, In many ways, dissonance has become part of my discipleship. And it drives me to do a lot better things than I probably would have done otherwise. I can no longer sit there in complacency when I know other people are hurting." This image came to me in the middle of the night to depict the dissonance I have felt and seen among our LGBTQ friends at church.
