Title: Death of the Kraken

Medium: Acrylic Gouache on Illustratino Board

Size: 23x16.5 in.

Artist Statement:

A reimagining of the classic Greek myth of Perseus slaying the Kraken (Cetus) with the head of Medusa to save Princess Andromeda. Inspired by the 1981 film "Clash of the Titans" and the illustrations of artist H.J. Ford.

Andromeda cowers, unable to look on, certain that Perseus will share her fate despite his magical gifts from the gods. The thrashed surf beats them against the rocks and barnacles, crashing and spraying all around them. Blessed Perseus holds forth the Gorgon's head, hideous and frozen in its death grimace. Its power is about to still Poseidon's mighty beast.

Perseus, the hero who faces and weaponizes paralyzing fear, to save Andromeda, the intended victim of systemic hubris, which if left unchecked, would devour everything with the chaos it brings.
