Artist Statement:
This painting is an allegorical exploration into the very human experience of waking up to reality. For years, we live in our own fantastical constructions of reality before (if we are lucky) waking up. Whether that means we suddenly become acutely aware of our own mortality, our own privilege, our own biases, or something else altogether--at some point (and likely at many points), we experience sobering moments of awakening, of realization, of acknowledgement. Though the angel has wings, and has never really needed to consider it previously, she suddenly notices that gravity does indeed exist.
