Artist Statement: 
One of the few women mentioned by name in the Book of Mormon, Abish was converted to the gospel because of a "remarkable vision of her father." The grammar is ambiguous. We are left to ponder, was this vision had by her father? was it had by Abish herself of her earthly father? of her Heavenly Father? of Jesus, her spiritual father? Pondering whose vision this actually was has led me to think about how we are always encouraged to gain our own witness. Personally, I believe that it was Abish who had the vision. She obviously had her own testimony and had gained her own witness. Even if the vision was experienced by her father, Abish’s actions demonstrated that she claimed her own spiritual autonomy to discern the truth. She acted according to that, and because of her agency a whole nation was blessed.
