Title: A moment in Marie Antoinette’s Hameau de la Reine
Medium: Original oil and acrylic
Size: 6x9 in.Artist Statement:
Tucked away in a corner of the grounds of Versailles is the Hameau de la Reine. The ‘Queen’s Hamlet’ is a rustic, magical, fairytale-like village built by Marie Antoinette in 1783. The thick forest hides away her village’s quaint curving stone cottages, vegetable gardens, and duck ponds. It stands in stark contrast to Versailles’ stately grandeur. Her village serves as a reminder of the joy that can be felt creating a quiet corner of the world just for you. It doesn’t have to be grand. Just a space where you can be wild and free. A space that feels special and magical and safe.
