Title: One Great Whole
Medium: Acrylilc on Canvas in Floating Frame
Size: 30x40
Artist Statement:
How do we increase connection to God, uncover, discover and connect truths more completely through the atonement of Jesus Christ? This tree portrait uses imperfect circles forming one great whole with the trunk. Most are connected to each other as Venn diagrams (thank you Annie Kershisnik Blake) and where that connection takes place I used metallic paint to show the extra power of commonality/overlap. Some are not connected, but are surrounded. I used a process of subtraction to uncover the white canvas beneath so that the leaves are simple and clear, not because anything was added layered on top of them, but because their truth and beauty were uncovered, exposed and made clean. Most of my work uses bold color for the composition, but this one intentionally lacks it - using gray as a statement for nuance that exists. Like many of my trees before this, the surroundings are busy and chaotic, but the foundation is a rock.
