Title: Details Matter: Utah Lake ShellsMedium: Photograph - Hahnemuhle print with protective coating
Size: 8x10, matted and framed at 11x14Artist Statement:
When the common story of a landscape remains stubbornly stalled in the past, refreshing the narrative requires illuminating the details. My work as a photographer, writer, scholar, and self-proclaimed Utah Lake advocate focuses on centering the forgotten wealth of this iconic and essential waterbody in hopes of repairing community relationships. From a colorful pile of shells on the southwestern shores to the presence of a 5000 year old grave of a man and his dog near Mosida to an endangered monarch butterfly drinking from North Shore milkweed to our messy entanglement with carp — sharing these details helps. Because stories are just as alive as the ecosystem and only connection can heal a neglected bond.
