Joan of Arc is a national hero of France, a Catholic Saint and Christian martyr. Born a peasant in the early 1400’s, with very little education and no experience in combat, Joan is credited with defending France against the English at the behest of 3 other saints.This painting is my depiction of her, along with the heavenly guides who are working out the ethics and strategies of her call. Background images are reimagined from a 13th century fresco “Triumph of Death”, by the Master of the Dominicans, Chapel of St. John, Dominicans' Church, Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige (Sudtirol), Italy
