Artist Statement:
Stories and fables often use animals to reveal truths about the human experience. In Small and Simple Things, a butterfly, frog, snail, and chipmunk symbolize the journey of personal growth. The butterfly represents our highest potential, the frog growth and change, and the snail steady progress. Yet the smallest figure—the chipmunk—is the force that sets everything in motion.
Drawing on the tradition of folklore and moral tales, this work suggests that transformation rarely begins with grand gestures. Instead, it often starts with a small kindness, a word of encouragement, or a simple act that helps another move forward.
